Weird Wreck Involving Riding Lawnmower, 1 Flown, LIVINGSTON, March 2, 2021 - At approximately 4:30 pm on March 2, 2021, a yellow 2002 Nissan Frontier, driven by Robert Strand, 55, of Livingston, decided to pull a Gravely riding lawnmower behind his truck (while a friend, Ronald M. Tolls, 80, of Livingston rode on the lawnmower). Strand was crossing from the south-bound side of 59 (in front of Hendrix Machinery just north of the Livingston City Limits) in an effort to get across 59 to a back road on the other side of the highway. Strand attempted to crossover but failed to yield to a south-bound 2015 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Joyce Tant Garcia, 59, of Corrigan. Garcia's vehicle broadsided Strand's pickup. The impact whipped the riding lawnmower over that Tolls was riding on, throwing Tolls from the mower. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Trooper Chris Cain with the Texas Highway Patrol. Tolls was flown to Houston with serious injuries. Garcia was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Strand was not injured. Strand is likely facing a citation for failure to yield right-of-Way. Garcia's vehicle and the Gravely mower were recovered by Ken's Towing. Strand's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker.
