Chevy Truck -vs- John Deere Tractor, NEW WILLARD, July 16, 2010 - At approximately 11:15 on July 16, 2010, a green John Deere tractor (Model 2642) driven by Joshua A. Byrd, 27, of Leggett, was north-bound on Loop 116 when he was slammed from behind by a tan 1988 Chevy 1500 driven by James R. Baxley, 86, of Seven Oaks. The impact turned the large tractor over ejecting Byrd. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputy Mark Dubose, and Trooper David Morris and Corporal Sam Lattner (both with the Texas Highway Patrol). Joshua Byrd laid in the as EMS personnel treated him. He was loaded onto an ambulance and driven a short distance away to a landing zone for PHI Air Medical on Loop 116. James Baxley was also injured was loaded onto an ambulance and driven to Livingston Memorial Hospital. All traffic on Loop 116 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Byrd was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. Baxley was cited for failure to control speed and Byrd was cited for failure to display a slow moving vehicle emblem. Both parties had insurance. Both the tractor and the truck were recovered by Harwood Wrecker Service and will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston.
