Freak Accident on Tractor Takes Life of Livingston Man, NEW WILLARD, January 7, 2009 - Shortly before 4 pm on January 7, 2009, a freak accident claimed the life of a Livingston man. The man (whose name is being withheld at this time), was driving a John Deer tractor south-bound on Loop 116 in New Willard when his tractor left the road to the right and went over the edge of a culvert. The man apparently fell sideways off the seat of the tractor and was crushed by the right back tire. The victim was found by his brother. Life flight was summoned, but waived off when the man was determined to be deceased. The Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit was dispatched to the scene in addition to deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff's Investigator, Craig Finnegan. DPS Troopers Nita Bowen and Darwon Evans were dispatched to assist in the investigation. One unit from Americare Ambulance Service arrived to assist. All traffic near the accident was blocked while the investigation was underway. Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Larry Whitworth performed an inquest and ordered an autopsy. A body car from Cochran's Funeral Home transported the victim away from the scene. The scene was cleared by 6 pm.
