Smoking Marijuana at a Cheap Motel Lands Man in Jail, LIVINGSTON, August 19, 2015 - Shortly before 9 pm on August 18, 2015, Trooper Darwon Evans with the Texas Highway Patrol went to the Sands Motel, located off South Washington, in Livingston to assist a man who had just got out of jail. The newly released inmate's wife was residing in the motel and she had a protective order against him (meaning he's not allowed to legally be around her). The man stated to Trooper Evans that his wallet and identification was in his wife's motel room. Evans agreed to help the man get his wallet and identification. Evans pulled into the Sands Motel parking lot and knocked on the door where the woman was residing. When she answered the door, an overwhelming smell of marijuana filled the air. Evans was joined to Trooper Allen Stanton and Officers with the Livingston Police Department including Adam Williford and Jason Thomas. As it turns out, the wife was in the motel room with her ex husband, J.C. Cato, Jr, 65, of Livingston. Cato admitted that the marijuana (less than 2 ounces) was his. The marijuana and paraphernalia were confiscated and Cato was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. In February of 2013, three people were arrested at the Sands Motel for manufacturing methamphetamine... In May of 2012, there was a small drug bust at the Sands Motel...
65 year old J.C. Cato, Jr., of Livingston was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana.
Evans places Cato into a unit to be transported to Polk County Jail as Livingston PD Officers Adam Williford and Jason Thomas stand by.
