On October 21, 2012...
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding the sexual assault of a child. When deputies arrived they were told of a white male subject, later identified as 47 year old Robert Wayne Cumbow who was believed to be having sex with a minor child. While investigating the scene it was discovered by the Deputies that Cumbow was a registered sex offender and was not registered with the Sheriff’s Office to be living at the address where he currently resides. Robert Cumbow was placed in custody and charged with the felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender.
On October 22, 2012...
Detective’s from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office along with a forensic interviewer conducted an interview with the child victim. After further investigation it was discovered Cumbow had been sexually assaulting this female subject for the last three years. The sexual assaults first began when the child was thirteen years old. A warrant was issued for the additional charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Robert Wayne Cumbow was served the additional warrant while in the Polk County Jail. Bond was set for $20,000 on the sex offender failure to register charge. Bond will be set on the aggravated sexual assault charge when Robert Cumbow went before the judge on the morning of October 23, 2012.
Robert Cumbow has been charged with two felonies: Failure to register as a sex offender (after relocating), and aggravated sexual assault of a child. At his October 23rd courth appearance his bond was escalated to $150,000.
