Motor Scooter Struck by SUV, 1 Hospitalized, LIVINGSTON, May 23, 2012 - At approximately 11 am on May 23, 2012, a silver 2010 Chevy Equinox driven by Karla Ripley, 55, of Goodrich, was south-bound on Pan American Drive near Thomas Supply. Ripley was in the far left lane and decided to change to the right lane. According to Livingston Police Department, Ripley moved into the right lane and accelerated striking a maroon Honda Goldwing motor scooter driven by Donald Lackey, 78, of Colorado. The collision caused Lackey to crash, Ripley pulled ahead to the left into the grass at FM-1988 and Pan American. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Sergeant Jason Paske with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Troopers with the Texas Highway Patrol, and Officers with the Livingston Police Department, including Investigating Officer, Chad Ward. Cyclist, Donald Lackey was wearing a helmet, but appeared to be bleeding from his head. Initially, EMS personnel summoned a medical helicopter to fly Lackey to Houston, but Lackey refused and ordered the helicopter to be called off. Lackey was loaded into an ambulance and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Officer Chad Ward, Karla Ripley was cited for unsafe lane change. A rollback wrecker from Fawbush Wrecker Service recovered Lackey's motor scooter and it will be stored in Goodrich. The scene was cleared by 11:45 am.

Cyclist Donald Lackey of the State of Colorado is tended to by Emergency Personnel.
Lackey was transported by ambulance to Livngston Memorial Hospital.
Sergeant Jason Paske, and Troopers David Flowers and Sam Lattner moved the wrecked motor scooter off the road.
Lackey's motor scooter was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service.
