News Comes in Waves Willie P. Openshaw September 15, 2023
This morning I was sitting at the kitchen bar sipping coffee and talking with my wife (Angel). It was just another morning when all the sudden a wave of news came in. A box truck was north-bound on 59 and left the pavement and jumped into the woodline just north of Radio Road (no injuries). Then there was another accident where a car that struck another vehicle and a school bus a couple of miles further up 59 (no injuries). I took pictures of these two accidents as I was enroute to FM-287 East where there was a fatal rollover accident. While I was on the scene on 287 East, a bomb scare went down at the Polk County Judicial Center. We received a press release from the Sheriff's Office on the bomb scare: On Friday, September 15, 2023, at approximately 8:20 AM, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Polk County Judicial Center, in reference to a possible bomb threat. The Judicial Center was evacuated, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation and coordinated a response with the assistance of the Texas Ranger’s Division. A thorough search was conducted of the building and surrounding area, with no dangerous or suspicious materials located. After further investigation, the suspect was quickly identified and the threat deemed not credible. At this time, there is no continued threat or danger to the public or employees associated with this investigation. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, news comes in waves. There's CONSTANTLY something happening, but most of the time it's not news worthy. Sometimes we go days and days with no major news, then all of the sudden the flood gates open. Ya just never know. There are times when we don't make the scene of things that are news worthy, but we do our best. Buckle up out there. As they used to say to us in the Army when we were released for the weekend; if you drive, don't drink, if you drink, don't drive. Have a safe weekend, everybody. :)
