The SPCA of Polk County Needs Foster Families, LIVINGSTON, July 14, 2008 - The SPCA of Polk County is not an animal shelter. All of our animals are in foster care with families. The number of animals we can assist is limited to the number of families we have that are willing to provide foster care. The hardest part of being a volunteer with the SPCA of Polk County is turning away animals in need of assistance because we do not have foster families available. If you can foster an animal for a few weeks or up to a few months to allow the SPCA of Polk County time to advertise the animal for adoption, we need to hear from you.
The SPCA of Polk County provides the initial vaccination, worming medication, and assists with food when available. We advertise the animals for adoption through Petfinder.com, Adopt-a-Thons, etc. and will try to place the animal in a permanent, loving home as soon as possible. The SPCA of Polk County is responsible for screening potential adopters and approving all adoption applications. The foster family provides food, shelter, love, playtime, and socialization. One of the greatest joys of being a volunteer with the SPCA of Polk County is seeing an animal that was unwanted be adopted by a loving family. This canÂ't happen without our foster families who are willing to care for the animals until they can be adopted.
All foster families are required to complete an application which must be approved before animals can be placed in the home. If you have the space, time, and love to give to an unwanted animal for a short period of time, you may be saving a life.
