Fighting rooster pit located in Leggett on Saturday (07/09/23)
Sheriff's Office Takes Down Cock Fighting Operation, LEGGETT, July 10, 2023 - At approximately 1:56 pm on July 9, 2023, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to a possible location where subjects were actively running an illegal cockfighting ring, in Leggett.
Deputies and Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, arrived to find numerous people and vehicles on scene, with several subjects fleeing on foot into the woods. Detectives located and observed the area where the illegal bird fighting was taking place, as well as evidence commonly used when fighting roosters. A search warrant was then obtained for the property. Upon further investigation, Detectives seized 31 roosters. Of the 31 seized, two were found dead, along with another three roosters found buried in the ground, and appeared to be from prior fights. Detectives arrested 12 subjects and towed 14 vehicles from the property. All subjects were charged with Cockfighting, with additional charges possible. This case remains under investigation.
