Sheriff's Office / Texas Rangers Investigating Alleged Suicide, ONALASKA, September 23, 2025 - The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a reported suicide that was received via a call on September 20, 2025, at approximately 8:48 p.m.
Shannon Joy Budell, 55, was found deceased at her residence in the Onalaska area of Polk County. Bradley Edward Stewart, 54, was present at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Texas Rangers, will continue the investigation and provide updates after the deceased's family has been notified and informed.
At this time, there are several inaccurate and speculative reports circulating in the media. The Sheriff’s Office urges the public to be patient, as information will be released responsibly and in accordance with the ongoing nature of the investigation.
