Deputies Awarded for Heroism, LIVINGSTON, December 22, 2021 - This morning (12/22/21) Deputy Darren Brooks and Corporal Roper Ellison with the Polk County Sheriff's Office were rightfully awarded for their heroism in saving the life of a wheel chair bound man who was stuck on the porch of a house that was engulfed in flames in the early morning hours of December 19. Corporal Ellison and Deputy Brooks sped to the house, jumped out of their units and ran without hesitation into the burning structure and carried the man to safety, saving his life. In recognition of their heroism, Sheriff Lyons awarded both men with a new pin to wear on their uniforms, and certificates and plaques to hang on their wall. Ellison and Brooks humbly accepted their awards and received a well deserved applause from the local press corps.
