Polk County Team Wins Go-Texan Penning Event, LIVINGSTON, February 26, 2008 - For the first time in "Go-Texan" history, Polk County has taken first place in the Team Penning event. The Go-Texan Team Penning competition was held Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy with approximately 75 teams representing both surrounding counties and metro areas of Houston. With two goes in the competition, the Polk County team took second place in the first go and first place in the final go, taking home a pair of Twisted-X Boots and a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo trophy saddle for their efforts. The team members, DeWayne Reynolds of Corrigan, Lisa Ellis of Livingston, and Bill Lawless, a new resident of Polk County, are all veteran team penners. In 2007, the Polk County Go-Texan Committee awarded twenty-six $1,000 scholarships to area seniors.
