Sheriff Hammack shows one trailer loaded down with pet food that he wants to go to people with pets who need it most.

Pet Food Surplus for the Needy, LIVINGSTON, September 23, 2008 - The Houston Humane Society has donated three trailer loads (big trailers) of dog food, cat food, and kitty litter to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.  Sheriff Hammack wants the food to go to needy families with pets.  "There's also families who foster pets to help the SPCA.  These families are taking care of pets until permanent homes are found for these pets, they also need this pet food", Hammack Says.  "The SPCA has pet food needs".  "We've filled our pet food bins and taken all we can take for our animal shelter, the rest needs to go to those who need it most".

Editors Note:
Sheriff Hammack is a proud pet owner and owns a bird that he named "Whistles".  You can see a picture of Whistles in our Community Pets Section.
