John Paul Penry Admits He's a Liar, Is Not and Never Was Retarded, Agrees to Spend Life in Prison, LIVINGSTON, February 15, 2008 - This afternoon in the 258th Judicial Court, John Paul Penry admitted to being a liar, admitted he's not retarded, and agreed to three consecutive life terms. In exchange, Penry has been removed from death row, but will spend the rest of his life in prison. Penry also agreed not to appeal ever again. Penry raped and murdered Pamela Mosley Carpenter in 1979 and has spent the last 28 years floundering in the Texas legal system. During this time, John Penry has dodged state execution 3 times. In all three times Penry has used his claim to being retarded to weasel his way out of being executed. Penry was once 15 hours from being executed before he was granted a stay of execution. His legal proceedings have been elevated to the United States Supreme Court twice. Pamela Carpenter Moseley's family can have peace of mind and closure knowing that John Paul Penry will never have a chance at freedom and will spend the rest of his days behind bars.
