American Legion Riders Raise $6,500 for Local Peace Officer's Association, LIVINGSTON, June 16, 2010 - At 6 pm on June 15, 2010, Sheriff Hammack and other Peace Officers gathered on the south lawn of the Polk County Courthouse in a little ceremony. The occasion was the presentation of a check made out to the Polk County Peace Officers Association in the amount of $6,500. The generous contribution was raised by the local American Legion Riders. A group of motorcyclists whose motto is "For God & Country". Member Felton Atkinson helped coordinate the fundraiser that took place at the City Grille on Saturday June 12, 2010. Barbecue was served and people came out and dined with their local Peace Officers. "We do things for our troops overseas, but it's also important that we take care of our Peace Officers over here who help protect us everyday" Atkinson said. "Thanks to these good people, they were able to help put on a fundraiser to help our funding so that we can give more back to the community" said Captain John Sanders of the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The Polk County Peace Officer's Association gives money for scholarships and supports charitable causes like SAAFE House and Childrenz Haven.
