From the T-Ballers all the way up to the Pony League, kids from the vicinity of Onalaska were announced one by one as players for their teams. Commissioner Ronnie Vincent presided of the opening ceremony. After the players were announced over the loudspeaker by their team coaches a cake auction was held, two bicycles, a 5 day stay at North Shore Cabins, and a raffle for a shotgun. The day also featured a homerun derby in which anyone could participate for a small fee. Following opening festivities it was time to play ball and games proceeded. The league raised around $3,000 and parents got to see their youngsters suited up with their teams. As a reporter who was there just to cover the event, I got a sense warmness from a community that loves its kids and loves the sport of baseball.
