Onalaska (Bad) Happenings...
Editor's Note: Often when crime happens in places like Onalaska or Corrigan, we're not able to make it to the scene before everything is wrapped up done and with before we even make it to a scene. It's easy to see that our MO is to arrive on the scene and get pictures of criminals being cuffed and placed under arrest. Since we're located in Livingston, its not always possible to make it in time. Having said that, we thank Captain John Maddox and Chief Ron Gilbert with the Onalaska Police Department for the following press release:
Friday July 26...
Corporal Alexander received a dispatched call of a subject on FM 356 South that was driving through people’s yards. Corporal Alexander just happened to have cleared a traffic stop in the parking lot of Jerry’s restaurant. Corporal Alexander located the vehicle on FM 356s and observed the vehicle was in the South bound lane of FM 356S traveling north. Corporal Alexander fell in behind the vehicle which ran the red light at the intersection of FM 356 and Hwy 190. Corporal Alexander activated his emergency lights and siren an attempted to stop the vehicle which was now traveling West on US Hwy 190. The vehicle failed to yield and continued West bound at a slow rate of speed. As they approached Lakeside RV the vehicle went into the oncoming traffic an almost had a head on collision with another vehicle. Just as they entered the causeway the vehicle went onto the North shoulder and struck the guard rail. The vehicle came of the guard rail and continued West bound going into oncoming traffic. At this time the vehicle picked up speed and was now traveling well over 70Mph. The vehicle continued to cross the center line several more times. The vehicle then again went to the north shoulder striking the guard rail. When the vehicle struck the guard rail this time it kicked him off and he went across the center line striking the South guard rail and almost hitting another car head on. The only reason he did not hit the other car head on was because when he hit the guard rail it wrecked out his vehicle. Corporal Alexander went to check on the subject driving the vehicle and the driver was still trying to start the car. Corporal Alexander had the subject exit the vehicle and the subject staggered out of the vehicle almost into oncoming traffic. The subject was arrested and taken for a blood draw.

Officer Parrish was assisting the Polk County Sheriff Dept. in locating a subject that had caused a disturbance in one of the subdivisions. Officer Parrish found the subject at US Hwy 190 and North Shore RV. Officer Parrish stepped from his patrol unit and told the subject he needed to talk to him. The Subject told Officer Parrish some vulgar language and swung at Officer Parrish with a Carpet Cutting Knife. Officer Parrish drew his duty weapon but did not discharge it due to North Shore RV being right behind the subject. The subject then took off walking East on US Hwy 190 with Officer Parrish close behind. Officer Parrish with help from Polk County Deputies was able to stop the subject again on the Kickapoo Bridge. The subject still had the knife in hand. All officers involved drew their duty weapons and order the subject to the ground. The subject refused and threw the knife in the lake. The officers then attempted to take the subject into custody and a physical altercation was initiated. Officer Parrish advised his immediate supervisors that it took 5 officers to secure the subject. The subject was arrested and placed in the Polk County Jail.
