Roadway Oil Spill Congests Traffic, LIVINGSTON, August 7, 2012 - Shortly after 3 pm on August 7, 2012, a large utility truck transporting 3 large transformers was east-bound on US-190.  One of the transformers was evidently not properly secured and fell, causing the other two to fall in the back of the truck.  The mishap occurred at the intersection of 190 and the US-59 overpass (next to Burger King and Whataburger).  One of the transformers caps came off causing a large amount of oil to spill from the transformer all over the intersection.  A minor accident occurred as a result of the spill.  Livingston Police Department, Troopers from the Texas Highway Patrol, and representatives from TXDot converged on the scene, shut down the intersection and a hazardous materials crew was dispatched.  All traffic at the intersection was blocked and rerouted for the cleanup.  At time of press (4:45 pm), the intersection is still closed to traffic as the mess is being cleaned up.

Special thank you:  Ken from Ken's Towing

Emergency personnel blocked the intersection of 190 and the 59 overpass after a large amount of oil spilled from a transformer.
Most of the spilled oil was on the west-bound side of the intersection.
The transformer on the right is discolored from spilling it's oil.
Lieutenant Matt Parrish with the Livingston Police Department, speaks to one of the truck's crew.
TXDot (wearing orange vests) helped shut down the intersection and control traffic.
Cotton Utility owns the truck that was transporting the transformers.
