Car Fire Takes Young Couple's Only Car, NEW WILLARD, March 8, 2008 - A car fire totally consumed a car at approximately 10:30 am on March 8, 2008 at a residence off of loop 116 in New Willard. The owner's of the car April and Dexter Hill of New Willard said that the car was just sitting in the driveway turned off and they noticed smoke coming from the car, they looked inside and the smoke was coming from under the dashboard. A flame erupted and within minutes the car was engulfed in flames. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department responded to the situation. There were two water tanker trucks at the scene with firefighters to douse the flame. Among the responders, Commissioner Tommy Overstreet and Livingston Fire Chief Corky Cochran were at the scene. There was also a Polk County Sheriff's Deputy at the scene. The young couple say that they purchased the 1990 Ford Taurus from Lazy S auto exactly one week ago today. They were also expressing concerns that the wiring under the dashboard appeared to be "jerry-rigged".
