Body of Missing Montgomery County Man Found in Wooded Area, LIVINGSTON, July 31, 2014 - Early Thursday afternoon (July 31), searchers found the body of 57 year old James Buckner of Magnolia (Montgomery County) in a wooded area close to US-59 on the backside of the old golf course. Buckner was last seen alive on July 9.
It was Wednesday night when a female employee at La Quinta, seeing the flyers, contacted authorities and stated she believed she had seen Buckner several weeks ago. She stated he entered the hotel one evening carrying a flashlight and was perspiring extensively. She said his clothes had been torn. She offered Buckner water and offered for him to down to cool off.
Buckner refused an offer for a room and told the female he was going to go walking in the woods behind the hotel. She saw him as he entered the field. It was still daylight at that time.
Thursday morning Livingston Police Department and almost forty volunteers returned to the location and started searching along with dogs.
Buckner's wife, Kathy, was also on the scene as she was in almost every phase of the search. She said Thursday morning, “I feel today is the day will find him.”
Just after noon Alvin, an EquuSearch volunteer was walking down a trail on an area that had already been searched. A wind came up carrying an odor which he recognized and started searching the immediate area. On his hands and knees he crawled into some very heavy under growth and discovered James Buckner.
Buckner's body was transported to Beaumont for an autopsy.
