Intoxicated and Crazed, Man Assaults Police, Tries to Take Gun, LIVINGSTON, June 2, 2015 - On June 1, 2015 the Livingston Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of West North street to assist Americare EMS with a subject involved in a disturbance. Americare EMS said that they had received a 911 call of a man who had fallen in the road and was vomiting. When they arrived they tried to determine if the subject needed assistance but he refused to cooperate with them.
Sergeant Chad Ward with Livingston Police Department was dispatched, when Sergeant Ward arrived he recognized the subject as Pheinix Lee Jones (50) of Livingston kneeling in the grass near the curb with clinched fists and sweating profusely. Ward was joined by Officers Adam Williford and Jason Thomas (Also with LPD). When they made contact with Jones he became violent towards the Officers. Officers determined that Jones was Intoxicated to a degree that he was a danger to himself and others. While the officers were conducting the arrest of Jones, he refused to comply with the officers commands and began kicking and using force against the officers and assaulting them. Officers were able to restrain Jones and transported him to CHI St. Lukes Emergency Room to be evaluated due to his apparent high intoxication levels.
While at St. Lukes Emergency Room, Jones continued to be combative and kicked Officer Thomas in the face, then Jones attempted to take Officer Williford's gun. The Officers were able to finally gain control of Jones. Jones did not receive any serious injury and was medically cleared later that night and released back to the Officers' custody. Jones was then transported to Polk County Jail without further incident. During the physical altercation with Jones the officers did not sustain any serious bodily injury and remained on duty.
Pheinix Lee Jones was charged with three counts of assault causing bodily injury on a police officer (felony 3RD degree), attempt to take weapon from an officer (felony) and resisting arrest search or transport (misdemeanor class "A").
Pheinix Lee Jones remains in Polk County Jail pending bond.
