Livingston Man Arrested for Impersonating a Police Officer, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, August 16, 2025 - A Livingston man is in custody for impersonating a police officer, and detectives are now looking for additional information and/or witnesses.
38-year-old William Caruthers is currently in the Montgomery County Jail facing two charges of Impersonating a Public Servant. The first one was filed by LPD after an incident that occurred in late July here in Livingston. Caruthers was seen chasing a motorcycle with his emergency lights flashing. After an investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Caruthers.
Several days later, Caruthers was picked up by Montgomery County deputies for that arrest warrant. During that interaction, Caruthers was believed to be impersonating a law enforcement officer on a crash scene that he was involved in. Montgomery County then added their own charge when he was booked into the jail.
Caruthers was previously arrested for Impersonating a Public Servant in 2020 and later found guilty. This repeated pattern of behavior leads us to believe there have been more incidents. In the above instances, Caruthers was driving a grayish tan 2007 Ford Crown Victoria, with a black push bar and several emergency lights. He was also in possession of body armor and handheld radios. Detectives are asking for any witnesses that have had similar encounters with Caruthers or his vehicle to please contact us. Reference case #250704696.
