Livingston Head Coach Roy Mozley watches his team.
Lion Baseball Opens Season with Win, DIBOLL, February 23, 2011 - The Livingston Lion Varsity Baseball Team opened the 2011 regular season with a 9 - 7 win over the Diboll Lumberjacks. Head Coach Roy Mozley had his team mentally prepared as they demonstrated team effort to build a large lead then withstand the predictable surge from the Lumberjacks. The pitching rotation consisted of Josh Moore, Blake Burman, Will Hon, and Cassity Land. As in football, I'm no statistician, so I can't tell you everything statistically about this game or any game, but the Lions put together a solid outing both offensively and defensively to beat a decent Lumberjack team in their own back yard. Barring a few Lion errors, the score shouldn't have been that close. No matter, errors happen. That's baseball. Being media, I had the privilege of standing in the Lion dugout for the duration of the game and what I observed is a team that had a very relaxed demeanor and a great chemistry as the teammates supported each other but also wouldn't hesitate to tease each other which is really nice and is conducive to a relaxed team disposition. Honestly, I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole game. I've always been a football guy and have never covered a baseball game before so I wasn't sure what I was doing. I didn't do a highlight reel, but I got some great pictures. My apologies to Tyler LeBlanc who blasted a 360 ft. homerun in the top of the 3rd (I didn't have my video camera rolling). LeBlanc's homerun was somewhat of a springboard that started the Lions scoring run and ultimately proved to be the difference as the Lions won by 2 runs. In case you don't know, the players are:
Zach Reed, Rob Beck, Colby Devilleneuve, Bryant McClendon, Josh Moore, Tyler LeBlanc, Remmington Whitt, Cassity Land, Ty Duff, Will Hon, Andrew Lantrip, Blake Burman, Cole Galloway, Ceasar Rodriguez
Be proud, they not only played an exceptional game, more importantly they demonstrated great sportsmanship and made Livingston look good. Kudos to Coach Mozley and his staff.
