The Livingston Lions Varsity Football Team during pre-game warm ups on November 5, 2010.
Balance, Offense, Defense, Lions Do It All in Shutout of Vidor, LIVINGSTON, November 6, 2010 - The weakest part of the Livingston Lions (defensive secondary) came alive Friday night in the Jungle as the Lions held the Vidor Pirates scoreless for the entire game shutting out Vidor 21 to Zero. Vidor tried to pass, but the stingy Lion defense simply wouldn't allow them a big play. The defense would bend a little, but wouldn't break and held up when it needed to. The Lions were clinging to a 7 point lead in the third quarter with Vidor driving. Vidor had the ball at the Lion 35 yard line and faced a 4th and 1. They tried to run it, but was stuffed by Ryan McClain for a 1 yard loss. This play was so huge, it proved to be a turning point in the game halting the Vidor drive, and preserving the Lion lead. The following play, Devonte Mays ripped off 63 dash for the end-zone effectively putting the game out of reach for Vidor. As usual the Lion running game was running well with Devonte Mays being the man of the hour this night(see no. 24 on the highlight reel) The passing game seems to be waking up. I don't know how many pass plays the Lions attempted, but there were a lot more than usual. While most were incomplete, they appeared to be well executed on Quarterback Chevoski Collins' part. Passing is one of those things that must be practiced a lot and the Lions showed they're working on it. Getting back to defense, Ryan McClain, Michael Rudebusch, Blake Burman, Austin Galloway, and Devon Barnes wouldn't allow the Vidor quarterback to get comfortable sacking him, I think around 5 or 6 times.
Playoffs Next... The Lions will face the Dayton Broncos Saturday night (November 13) in Beaumont for their first game of the post season. Dayton is usually a very solid football team and will probably be ready. So the Lions better be on their game in every way Saturday. I for one can't wait and am looking forward covering this game. The post season is the very best that good 'ol American Football has to offer and the Lions need your support. Come on Livingston!...Make a road trip, have some fun, and come cheer for the Lions, they need you and you need them!

Editor's Note: I was only able to snap some pre-game photos, and then had to head up to the press box to work the highlight reel camera. Our usual highlight reel wiz kid (the Willster) was covering Corrigan's game against Groveton and he'll be providing a highlight reel for that game. I'm not as good as the Willster, but I did my best on the Livingston Highlight Reel. For the playoff game against Dayton, we'll be back to normal again.
As usual, Head Coach Randy Rowe had his game face on before the game.
