Head Coach Randy Rowe laughs with his players prior to the game.
Lions Abuse LC-M 35 to 0, LIVINGSTON, October 29, 2011 - According to Head Coach Randy Rowe, the Lions would be a bunch of wild animals tonight and he was right. The Lions once again got back on track and won a game they were supposed to win and beat the crap Little Cypress-Mauriceville. The highlight of the evening (at least in my opinion) was the Lion Defense that held LCM scoreless for the entire game, there were sacks aplenty and Bryant McClendon had a stellar evening picking off three LCM passes. McClendon seems to have a knack for coming up with interceptions, he has had other multi-interception games this year. Another particularly nice observation this evening was the very aggressive play of Ken Rue and DeOndre Jackson. Both brought that nasty cockiness and swagger as they terrorized the LCM backfield (just watch the highlight reel). The LCM offensive line was porous as the Lions consistently penetrated throughout the evening. The one time when LCM got close to scoring, there was McClendon to pick off that little opportunity.
On the offensive side of the ball Quarterback Chevoski Collins, with running backs Kyle Neal, Antonio White, Devon Barnes, and Damion Collins inflicted heavy damage on the LCM defense. The run of the night has to go to Damion Collins who took one to the house from fifty yards out. The passing game appears to be picking up again. The pass of the night was a gorgeous 25 yard bomb from Quarterback Chevoski Collins to a diving Glen Bangs (see play of the week). Bangs made the type of catch that kids dream about as his body was parallel to the ground, in the air, and his outstretched arms made the catch (for a touchdown no less). At halftime the Lions were up 21 to 0. By the end of the game, the Lions had the ball in victory formation and ran out the clock as the final score was Lions 35, LCM 0.
It was important that the Lions won this game with the playoffs on the horizon and they just needed to win it for themselves. Especially after the last 2 times we played LCM and the Lions had nice leads only to blow the lead and lose in the closing minutes giving LCM precious memories. Well, on this evening, the Lions gave the Battlin Bears a very ugly memory that they'd probably rather forget.
It was almost a text book game, even the special teams unit did cool stuff (like block a punt). It's all on the highlight reel so be sure to click on the Highlight Reel (top headlines page).
Next week is the final game of the regular season, and will be against the Vidor Pirates in Vidor. The game starts a 7:30 pm. Let's go Lions, lets get into the playoffs!
