Lions Destroy Lee Ganders in the Lions Den, LIVINGSTON, October 8, 2016 - On Friday evening (10/07/16) the Livingston Lions hosted the Robert E. Lee Ganders in the Lions Den. The Lions stumbled out of the gate giving up 14 points in the first five minutes, finding themselves staring up from a 14 point hole. No problem. These Broussard Lions seem to be gaining confidence with each week. The first touchdown came after the Ganders received the opening kickoff and then proceeded to run the ball right through the Lion defense. Shortly after their first TD, the Ganders intercepted an errant pass for a pick 6 from 15 yards out. I hope the Ganders enjoyed that while it lasted (which wasn't very long at all). Just over a minute later, Quarterback Hunter Bland hit Christian Mitchell for a 61 yard touchdown pass. That was the play that opened the flood gates and the Lions went on a scoring rampage. SCORING SUMMARY: First Quarter: 8:17 Ganders run in 2 yd td with pat Ganders 7, Lions 0 7:42 Ganders intercept Lion pass from 15 yards out for a pick 6 with pat Ganders 14, Lions 0 6:44 Hunter Bland pass to Christian Mitchell for 61 yard td with pat Ganders 14, Lions 7 1:14 Bland pass to Mitchell for 37 yd td with pat game tied at 14 Second Quarter: 9:47 Bland qb keeper 6 td td run w pat Lions 7:35 Ganders 3 yd td run w pat game tied at 21 3:31 Bland pass to JD Green for 10 yd td w pat Lions 28, Ganders 21 0:22 Cameron Merchant QB keeper for 1 yd td run w pat Lions 35, Ganders 21 Third Quarter: 11:32 Bland 50 yd td run on qb keeper w pat Lions 42, Ganders 21 7:34 Merchant 2 yd td run on QB keeper w pat Lions 49, Ganders 21 2:10 Ganders 11 yd td run w pat Lions 49, Ganders 28 Fourth Quarter: 11:51 Ganders 40 yd td run w pat Lions 49, Ganders 35 11:25 Bland 50 yd td pass to Mitchell w pat Lions 56, Ganders 35 3:26 Green 16 yd td run w pat FINAL SCORE: LIONS 63, GANDERS 35 Fun to Watch... In all my years of covering the Lions (since 2008), this is the first time I've seen the Livingston Lions as a true passing team. It's a culture of passing that I've never seen in Livingston. That's what coach Broussard brings and it's really, Really, REALLY fun to watch. The previous Lions were just run and once in a while chunk a pass. THESE Lions are way more pass oriented and it's so much more balanced. With Bland and Merchant at QB there's not only a TRUE passing threat, but there's a running game that defenses must reckon with. The defense can hold its own and is complimented by the Lion offense. ONCE AGAIN, we have to apologize to BJ Mottu. Mottu was set deep to receive the snap to punt the ball and faked the punt (caught our cameraman off guard) and carried the ball to the Gander 16 that set up another Lion TD that was the final nail in the Gander coffin. The Lion offense is STACKED with weapons: Hunter Bland, Cameron Merchant, Christian "Big Play" Mitchell, BJ Mottu, Cade Campbell, JD Green. Of course, none of this would be possible if it wasn't for the Lion offensive line. They gave our QBs the time they needed to find open receivers or run the ball. Wow! What a night! Next game will be in Vidor on Friday night. The Lions will need to be on top of their game. Willie P. Openshaw, Editor

A special thank you to Chicken Express off 190 West in Livingston. Their spicy wings in press box are so delicious that I look forward to every home game. They also provide corn on the cob, rolls, biscuits and chicken strips. If ya haven't tried Chicken Express, then you need to. I can't get over how good the spicy wings are.
