Local Attorney, Joe Roth Announces His Candidacy for 258th District Judge.
To The Voters of Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity Counties:
I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Judge of the 258th District Court because I have built a career that has prepared me for this job.
After graduating from Pampa (Texas) High School, Baylor University, and the University of Houston Law Center, my legal career began in Houston in 1977. In Houston I was a personal injury trial lawyer, becoming Board Certified in that field. In 1993, I moved to Livingston for a change of pace, opening a general law office to serve Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity Counties.
Practicing law in the tri-county area has invigorated me because of the variety of cases. I brought my civil trial experience from Houston to Livingston, enabling me to transition into criminal jury trials as well. In my 20 years of practicing in the district courts of Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity Counties, I have tried more than 100 cases and successfully negotiated hundreds of plea agreements. As a general practice lawyer, I have assisted hundreds of clients in filling their life needs such as preparing wills, negotiating divorces, or facilitating real estate transactions.
Community service has been an important element in my life. I joined the Livingston Rotary Club because I believe in its “service above self” creed and have served in key posts including secretary and president. I spent many years on the Board of Directors of the Livingston Youth Baseball Association, including a stint as league commissioner. One special joy was coaching several of my sons’ baseball teams. I did a tour on the Polk County Central Appraisal District. I also served on First United Methodist Church of Livingston’s Administrative Board.
My wife Beverly and I just celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. I have three sons, all of whom are grown and now live in the Dallas area. Hardy Boydston, my stepson from my first marriage, is an advertising executive and is married to an attorney. My son Stephen Roth teaches high school math and also married an attorney. They are expecting a child in November, so I soon will be a grandparent! My youngest son Cody Roth works for Home Depot.
My main hobbies are keeping up with Baylor Bear athletics, flying my airplane, and climbing the “14ers” – the 14,000-foot mountains of Colorado. I have climbed 15 of them so far.
