Man Who Fell Into Lake Livingston Passes Away, CONROE, May 22, 2018 - The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a man falling in to Lake Livingston on May 19, 2018 around 7:00 PM. The Sheriff’s Office received 911 information from the victim’s wife that her 55 year old husband, Russell Bumgardner, was fishing from the bank fell into the water and could not swim. His wife was unable to retrieve him from the water on her own. The couple were up from the Houston area visiting friends. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the subdivision of Oak Terrace. Fireman Lee Jones was in the area and drove to the scene and was joined by Park Ranger, Scott Green. Jones and Green went into the water at the vicinity of where Mr. Bumgardner was last seen. Bumgardner was located face down in the water. Jones and Green managed to get Bumgardner ashore. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene. CPR was administered. Bumgardner transported to Chi St. Luke’s Hospital and later to the Conroe Regional Medical Center where the victim later died the next day. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office contacted Polk County Detectives after the death where arrangements were made for an autopsy to be performed at the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Man Nearly Drowns, Rushed to Hospital, OAK TERRACE, May 19, 2018 - At approximately 7 pm on May 19, 2018, Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the subdivision of Oak Terrace in reference to a possible drowning. Fireman Lee Jones was in the area and drove to the scene and was joined by Park Ranger, Scott Green. Jones and Green went into the water at the vicinity of where the middle aged man allegedly was. They spotted him. The man was face down in the water. Jones and Green grabbed the man and managed to get him ashore. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies Michael McDuffie and Corporal Teddy Sims with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. EMS personnel found the man to still be alive and rushed him to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. According to sources, the man was fishing with his wife and lost his footing and fell into the water. She called the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The name of the man has not been released. His current status is still not known to PolkCountyToday.com.
