Update on Robbery / Shooting, LIVINGSTON, March 1, 2013 - The Livingston Police Department released more information regarding the alleged robbery / shooting death that occurred on February 27, 2014 on North Jackson Avenue near the Polk County Courthouse. The following is a press release from LPD:
On February 27, 2014 at approximately 7:40 pm, Livingston Police Department responded to the 300 Block of North Jackson in reference to a robbery that had previously occurred where shots had been fired. When Officers arrived they observed a 26 year old male subject laying on the ground with what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds. During the preliminary investigation it was determined that a 48 year old property owner was leaving a nearby office when he was approached by the subject who produced a weapon and demanded money. The property owner stated he was able to obtain a weapon from his vehicle and fired multiple shots in self defense. Officers secured the scene and collected evidence for later processing. The 26 year old subject was declared dead by Justice Of The Peace Larry Whitworth who ordered an autopsy at the Harris County Institute Of Forensic Science.
The Livingston Police Department is withholding identification of all involved pending notification of next of kin and completion of the investigation. The Livingston Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Texas Rangers, and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.

Man Shot and Killed in Apparent Attempted Robbery, LIVINGSTON, February 27, 2014 - At approximately 8 pm on February 27, 2014, Livingston Police and Detectives were dispatched to the scene of a shooting. Police arrived to find a black male lying face down in the grass at 303 North Jackson Avenue. The man had been shot multiple times. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene and the area was taped off as a crime scene. Sadly, EMS personnel were not able to revive the man. Justice of the Peace, Larry Whitworth pronounced the shooting victim dead at the scene. Witnesses who were nearby when the shooting occurred reported hearing five shots. The shooting victim allegedly tried to rob the owner of the building at 311 North Jackson Avenue. Police are not releasing any names at this time. We will post updates when we receive more information on this incident.
