Local Man Hairm Walker Nominated for Prestigious Award, LIVINGSTON, January 23, 2008 - Hairm Walker has been nominated for the prestigious TCMA of the Year Award. TCMA (Texas Circulation Manager Associate) of the year is awarded to candidates for doing exceptionally good work in the field of newspaper delivery. The Houston Chronicle came to Livingston during the lunch hours today to lavish some much deserving attention on Walker for his achievements of delivering papers for the last six years.
Hairm usually starts his day at around 4 am and delivers 105 papers a day. He usually wraps up his day's work at about the time most of us are just headed to work (between 7:30 and 8 am). Walker says what he likes most about being a carrier is it gets him out of the house. Once he's done, he likes to visit friends and get free coffee. Walker says he enjoys seeing wildlife during his daily runs and often sees deer and an occasional fox. Amongst the more unusual things that happen to him is he runs across an occasional skunk and it seems like the smell takes awhile to go away. The most unusual thing that has happened to Walkers so far, he says, is one morning a flatbed truck hit his car from behind and knocked out a window of his car and spun the car around about 3 times, but he still managed to get his papers delivered.
The TCMA award doesn't just involve the Houston Chronicle, it involves all circulated newspapers in Texas, regardless of news affiliation, and to be nominated for such an award is rarified air for Walker, his associates and clients.
