Neighbors spotted the burning home and called authorities. The owners of the burning home weren't at home at the time. Volunteer fire departments from Goodrich and Livingston responded to the fire located in the 300th block of Elmwood Road. According to Goodrich Fire Chief, Ken Hambrick, when they arrived the one story house was engulfed in flames. Firemen were able to douse the fire, but the home was completely destroyed. Deputy Randy Turner with the Polk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to investigate. The fire is believed to have started in the front of the home (possibly the front porch). PolkCountyToday.com was not able to ascertain the names of the homeowners or whether or not they had home owner's insurance. The homeowners did arrive after the house was completely totaled.
Firemen from Livingston and Goodrich work in a very dangerous environment. With night time and heavy smoke, it's nearly impossible to see what you're walking into.
