20 Acres Burns Near Reservation, EAST POLK COUNTY, August 8, 2011 - At least 20 acres burned in East Polk County during the evening of August 8, 2011. According to Livingston Fire Chief, Corky Cochran, 7 volunteer fire departments from Polk County responded to the fire that occurred at FM-942 at FM-2500. The fire was doused after about 2 hours. The fire started at approximately 7 pm and is believed to be electrical in nature. An outdoor electrical fuse may box sparked the fire. Chief Cochran pointed out the dry conditions made the fire spread quickly and to make matters worse there was a warm dry wind that fanned the flames. In addition to firemen, the Texas Forest Service had two bulldozers assisting. No structures burned and there are no reported injuries from the fire.
Smoldering brush was visible along a stretch of FM-942.
