Scenic Loop Fire Chief Donald Marlow (right) helps coordinate an attack on the house fire.
House "Explodes" on Scenic Loop, SCENIC LOOP, July 25, 2011 - At approximately 10:30 pm on July 24, 2011, a report of an explosion from a house was reported to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.  The Scenic Loop and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to 155 Ima Jean Road across the road from the Whirlwind Club.  Additionally, Deputy Monty Lee with the Polk County Sheriff's Office was also dispatched.  According to one fireman, when they arrived, the fire was all the way out onto the road.  Firefighters battled the blaze that had also caught trees on fire, and damaged power lines.  The fire totaled the house and was extinguished by 11:30 pm.  Polk County Fire Marshal, Jay Barbee arrived and initiated an investigation.  According to Barbee, the cause of the fire is still unknown.  The house was vacant and was reportedly foreclosed on and was technically property of Polk County Taxing Authorities.  The scene was cleared sometime after midnight.
