House Fire Leaves Married Couple in Critical Condition, CRYSTAL LAKE WEST, June 9, 2021 - At approximately 11:30 pm on June 8, 2021, a house fire was reported to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 432 Norman Street in Crystal Lake West. Deputy Johnny Wooten (soon joined by Deputy Marcus Bailey) was the first emergency personnel on the scene and was able to break a window to get into the house that was filled with smoke. Wesley Crain, 64, and his wife, Donna Crain, 57 were both located but were passed out from smoke inhalation. They were taken from the home. EMS responders began CPR. Both Wesley and Donna Crain were rushed by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The fire was extinguished, but the interior of the home was heavily damaged (possibly totaled). The cause of the fire is not yet known. Deputies Wooten and Bailey initiated a preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire. It is not yet known to PolkCountyToday.com whether or not the home was being rented to the Crains, or if they were the homeowners, or if the home was insured. This incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Polk County Fire Marshal.
