Forest Fire in Soda Quickly Extinguished by LVFD, SODA, April 15, 2008 - At approximately 6:45 pm, a forest fire flared up due to low humidity, dry conditions, and strong winds.  The fire started when the property owners of some land behind Oak Grove Church of Christ on Highway 190 East in Soda was burning some trees from cleared land.  The windy, dry condition caused the fire to spread to the nearby woods and a forest fire was reported by the owner of the land.  3 pump trucks from Livingston Volunteer Fired Department arrived and a surplus of volunteer firemen including Chief Corky Cochran, Allen Cook, and Jackie Thomas.  Chief Cochran told PolkCountyToday that before anyone decides to burn, they need to contact the local office of the Texas Forest Service for any advisory on burning.  The local office telephone number is (936) 327-4832.  The fire was under control shortly after 7 pm.
