Generator Explodes, Ignites House fire, Couple Lose Home, HOLIDAY LAKE ESTATES, January 7, 2017 - Shortly before 4 pm on January 7, 2017, a house fire was reported to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Volunteer firemen arrived at 486 Driftwood Road in the Holiday Lake Estates Subdivision to find a house engulfed in flames. According to the owners of the home, J.E. Brewer and his wife, Debbie, they had no power (due to a widespread power outage) and were using their generator. Mr. Brewer was reportedly standing near the generator when it exploded causing injuries to Brewer and starting a house fire. Mrs. Brewer got out of the home without injury. The Brewers had four dogs and two are unaccounted for. The home burned to the ground. J.E. Brewer sustained serious injuries and was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. The Brewers had no insurance. Deputy Jacob Hopper and Corporal Mark DuBose with the Polk County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
