Equipment Fire at Leggett Land Fill, LEGGETT, January 7, 2009 - At approximately 12 noon on January 7, 2009 a trash compactor apparently over heated and caught fire at the land fill in Leggett. A Caterpillar trash compactor that was working the trash high atop the landfill caught fire and 2 fire engines led by Livingston Fire Chief Corky Cochran were dispatched to the scene. The firemen sprayed foam flame retardant on the compactor for around 20 minutes as the fire refused to go out. The trash compacter resembles a steam roller except it has a special roller that compacts the trash down before it's covered with dirt. The Livingston Volunteer Fire Department came through again and the fire was put out by 12:40 pm.
