Big Sandy Stand out Pitcher Signs Letter of Intent, BIG SANDY, January 22, 2016 - On the morning of January 21, 2016, Big Sandy stand out left handed pitcher, Senior, Ethan Cherry, signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Texas, Tyler. Cherry was joined by his parents, Jeff and Shanna Cherry, his big brother, Avery, his grandparents, Kenny and Beth Ryan, his Head Coach, Jacob Hooker, and his girlfriend, Shelby Swien. Additionally, an auditorium of his classmates and his baseball team. For such a small school, this is a big deal for Big Sandy. "This is a great day for our school and our community" Coach Hooker said, "It goes to show that hard work pays off. It doesn't matter if you go to a 6A high school or a 2 A high school", he said. Cherry showed total humility as he thanked everyone for showing up. He thanked his coaches, his parents, and his family. Cherry told PolkCountyToday.com that as far as baseball is concerned, that he wants to help the Big Sandy Wildcats go undefeated in district for their upcoming season, and then focus on the playoffs.
