Driver Charged With Driving While Intoxicated on 350 South, LIVINGSTON, December 30, 2008 - At approximately 7:40 pm on December 30, 2008 a vehicle that was reported by an alert citizen to the Polk County Sheriff's Office was spotted by Deputy Lee Rogers. According to the witness, the driver was driving erratically. The vehicle was north bound on 350 near TDCJ Polunsky Unit. Rogers pulled over a white, 1994 Chevy Astro driven by Helen Chessher, 52, of Hull, Texas. Rogers noticed a heavy smell of alcohol coming from Chessher and administered a field sobriety test which Chessher failed. Chessher was cuffed and placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. During the altercation, Chessher was observed having wild emotional swings. One moment crying, the next screaming profanities at Rogers and PolkCountyToday.com, the next apologizing, only to be screaming again. Upon searching Chessher's vehicle, a bottle of wine and an empty beer can was found. Chessher had insurance. A rollback wrecker from FawBush Wrecker Service recovered Chessher's vehicle and Chessher was driven to Polk County Jail and booked in. The scene was cleared shortly after 8 pm.
