2 Arrested in DWI / Drug Charges, LIVINGSTON, September 23, 2025 - At approximately 6:35 pm on September 23, 2025, Deputy Rafael Hererra, with The Polk County Sheriff's Office was north-bound on US-59 South of Livingston when he was alerted to a black 2004 Toyota Camry that was ahead of him. The driver was all over the road and was even driving down the middle of the two lane highway. Deputy Hererra initiated a traffic stop as the driver, Chelsie Lawson, 38, of Channelview exited 59 and pulled into the parking lot of HEB gas pumps (next to Burger King). Hererra was quickly joined by Sergeant Trent Jones and Corporal Dakota Martinez (both with The Sheriff's Office). Additionally, Trooper Simon Mijares with The Texas Highway Patrol arrived to assist. Lawson showed signs of intoxication. Sergeant Jones conducted a field sobriety test on Lawson and placed her under arrest for driving while intoxicated (second offense). A vehicle search turned up a sizable amount of drugs. Evidence suggests that the drugs were intended for delivery and redistribution. Lawson was charged with DWI, and manufacture and deliver of illegal drugs. Lawson's passenger, Stephanie McCarthy, 63, of Livingston, was found to be in possession of marijuana and was placed under arrest. Lawson's vehicle was recovered by LakeView Towing out of Livingston.
Lawson was arrested for DWI and faces an additional drug charge.
