Driver Slogs Into Soggy Median on US-59, Charged with DWI, GOODRICH, May 4, 2019 - At approximately 3:45 pm on May 3, 2019, multiple calls came in to the Polk County Sheriff's Office in reference to a red 2017 Nissan Altima for erratic driving. The vehicle, driven by Newell McKinney, 37, of Houston, was south-bound. McKinney's vehicle left the pavement to the left and entered the median south of Goodrich. The Median was saturated from rain. McKinney drove through the middle of the median for nearly the length of a football field before his vehicle finally came to stop in the mud. Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene and was assisted by Deputy Ron Goertz with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Kevin Burman and Donny Akers. After checking McKinney for intoxication, Corporal Bass placed McKinney under arrest for driving while intoxicated. McKinney was driven to Polk County Jail and booked in. His vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.

A drained bottle of brandy was found next to McKinney's vehicle.
