Minor Accident Caused by Major Intoxication, BIG THICKET LAKE ESTATES, March 20, 2009 - At approximately 9 pm on March 20, 2009, a blue 2008 Kia Spectra driven by Tammy Jo McCoy, 50, of Livingston was south-bound on Big Foot Wallace Road in Big Thicket Lake Estates, when her car was struck by a north-bound older model Buick LeSabre driven by Mandy B. Vanderpool, 28, of Rye. The accident took place at Big Foot Wallace Road and Devereaux. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the reason for the minor collision is because Vanderpool didn't remain on her side of the road. Fortunately nobody was injured in the accident. McCoy was traveling with several family members including small children. Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Jamie Buie was dispatched to the scene along with DPS Trooper David Flowers. Vanderpool showed signs of being heavily intoxicated. Trooper Flowers administered a field sobriety test and Vanderpool was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Vanderpool's vehicle registration and inspection were dated 2006. The scene was cleared shortly after 10 pm.
