Fender Bender Leads to DWI Arrest, GOODRICH, April 9, 2016 - Shortly after 10 pm on April 8, 2016, a purple 2011 Nissan Cube, driven by Lashonna Harper Sturgis, 39, of Lufkin, was involved in a minor accident (fender bender) on South Tyler Street at FM-1988 West.  Trooper Chris Cain with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate.  When Cain spoke with Sturgis, he noticed that her speech was slurred and her demeanor were consistent with intoxication.  Trooper Cain asked Sturgis if she had been drinking or taking any kind of medication.  Sturgis eventually confessed that she had been taking some prescription pills.  When Cain asked what kind of pills, and where the pills were, Sturgis showed him where the pills were in the car.  Cain found multiple bottles of prescription medication.  He showed her on each bottle where it said, "not to drive or operate any type of heavy machinery when in use" on the bottles.  Cain conducted a field sobriety test and placed Sturgis under arrest for driving while intoxicated.  Her vehicle was driven home by a friend to a nearby friend's house.
