Sergeant Daryl Newman and Trooper Chris Stanbery listened to what Ernest Laake had to say.
Driver Leaves Buster McNutty's, Drives Into Oncoming Traffic, Busted for DWI, LIVINGSTON, March 5, 2011 - At approximately 11:30 pm on March 4, 2011, Ernest Paul Laake (pronounced Lockey), 55, of Livingston, left Buster McNutty's off US-190 East.  Laake stated he was on his way to Whataburger to get some food.  Laake turned out of the parking lot and headed east on 190 towards Whataburger. The problems was, Laake was headed east on 190 in the west-bound lanes of traffic.  Sergeant Daryl Newman with the Livingston Police Department spotted the errant driver and pulled him over a short distance east of First National Bank.  Newman sensed that Laake was drunk and asked him if he'd been drinking.  Laake admitted to have had drank two pitchers of beer prior to his excursion.  DPS Trooper Chris Stanbery arrived along with Sergeant Nita Bowen (both with the Texas Highway Patrol).  Trooper Stanbery administered a field sobriety test and Laake was unable to perform any of the required tasks for a field sobriety test.  Laake was placed under arrest and booked into Polk County Jail for driving while intoxicated.  A rollback wrecker from LakeView Wrecker Service recovered Laake's 2005 silver Malibu and it will be stored in Livingston.  The scene was cleared by 12:20 am.
