Another Saturday Night, Another DWI, LIVINGSTON, January 3, 2009 - D.J. Helpenstill was towing an old Chevy truck to his house in Wiggins Village on Saturday, January 3, 2009. At about 5:55 pm, Helpenstill, 31, was making a right turn off of Ana Drive in Wiggins Village when he had a fender bender with a Chevy truck driven by Martin Patino Olivares, 35, of Livingston. According to Helpenstill, Olivares didn't want the police to be called and offered D.J. $100 not to call. D.J. did the right thing and Polk County Sheriff's Deputies Mark Dubose and Jaime Buie were dispatched to the scene to find an intoxicated Olivares. The deputies detained Olivares until DPS Troopers Christ Stanbery and David Flowers arrived. Flowers administered a field sobriety test and Olivares flunked with flying colors. According to Flowers, a breathalyzer test was administered and Olivares blew nearly 3 times the legal limit. Olivares was handcuffed and placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Opened beer was found in Olivares' truck and a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber loaded revolver. Olivares did have insurance and his truck was towed by a rollback wrecker from LakeView Wrecker Service. Traffic was not blocked during the incident and the scene was cleared by 8 pm.
Martin Patino Olivares of Livingston was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
