Sheriff Hammack offers assistance with "Benson" a massive Olde English Mastiff.
SPCA Dog & Car Wash Earns "High Barks" for a Job Well Done, LIVINGSTON, August 9th, 2008 - The SPCA held a Dog & Car Wash in the parking lot of Pedigo Furniture on Saturday August 9th from 10 am - 2 pm. Cars streamed in and got washed as hosts of volunteers worked toward a good cause. Many car and truck owners brought their dogs to be washed in addition to getting their vehicles washed. Volunteers also served up barbecue. Local SPCA director Penny Glienke was on hand and elated with the success of the event. "We were hoping to be able to raise $2,000 but we've gone well over that mark today!", Glienke said with a big smile. Sheriff Hammack made an appearance and paid to have his truck washed. The Sheriff's Office works closely with the SPCA in animal control for Polk County. Hammack spoke with Glienke and she told the Sheriff that several Sheriff's patrol cars had come to get their cars washed "Did they pay with a purchase order number?" Hammack said jokingly (heavy laughter ensued). It was hot, but spirits were high and a good time was had by all. Good job by the SPCA in raising money to build a bigger facility to house unwanted and neglected animals.
