Truck Crashes Into Trees on 59 South, NEW WILLARD, February 24, 2008 - The Driver of a Ford F-150 pickup is lucky to be alive and well after crashing into the trees on 59 South. According to DPS Trooper Robert Akers, just before 3 pm on February 24, 2008, the driver of the truck, Gustabo Guzman DeLaCruz was headed south on 59 when he lost control of his truck due to a defective wheel bearing. The truck went off the road to the left and down the embankment and into the trees knocking down a medium sized tree in the process. The trucks bed was loaded and the truck was pulling a trailer that was also loaded. Two rollback wreckers were at the scene from Harwood Wrecker Service to tow the truck and trailer. DeLacruz was issued a citation for failure to maintain financial responsibility (no insurance), and no trailer registration. DeLaCruz told PolkCountyToday.com that he appreciated the professionalism that trooper Akers exhibited and that Akers treated him with decency and courtesy. Fortunately, DeLaCruz was physically okay and no ambulance was needed.
