Lengthy Investigation Lands 2 Felony Criminals In Polk County Jail, LIVINGSTON, May 5, 2012 - Early Friday afternoon (May 4, 2012) Narcotics Detectives Christopher Lima and Vance Berry stopped a vehicle off US-59 North in the Goodrich area at a Valero gas station. The vehicle was being driven by Douglas Dewayne Moffett, 35, of Lufkin. Moffett has been under investigation for nearly a year for allegedly transporting and selling methamphetamine from as far north as Lufkin through Polk County and all the way down to Houston. Lima and Berry were acting on felony warrants that were out for Moffett's arrest. The warrants were issued because Moffett had sold methamphetamine to undercover detectives from Polk County on two separate occasions in the past six months.
Moffett's Uncooperative Passenger...
While Douglas Moffett was being taken into custody, his passenger, identified as Jennifer Nicole Davis, 25, of Livingston, refused orders to exit the vehicle. Detectives removed Davis from Moffett's vehicle, placed under arrest, and charged her with resisting arrest / transport.
Valuable Intelligence from Moffett's Cell Phone...
By now, Detectives Berry and Lima were joined by Lieutenant Andy Lowrie and Sergeant Howard Smith (both narcotics investigators). Detectives confiscated Moffett's cell phone and searched the cell phone. The search was fruitful as a name that was familiar popped up on the cell phone. Communication on the cell phone indicated that Moffett was to meet that person that afternoon so that Moffett could provide drugs. Detectives Smith and Lowrie showed up at the meeting place where the deal was to transpire and found Vicente Nunez, 30, of Livingston. Nunez already had three active felony warrants out for his arrest. Additionally, Nunez was found to be in possession of methamphetamine (another felony). Smith and Lowrie placed Nunez under arrest.
Search of Moffett's Vehicle...
A search of Moffett's vehicle turned up methamphetamine hidden in various places throughout the vehicle. Detectives say the investigation is not over, and that more arrests are to come.
