A TEAM CORRIGAN CAN BE VERY PROUD OF...
Willie Openshaw, Editor, PolkCountyToday.com

This was the first game for the Corrigan Bulldogs that I've covered and the first thing I noticed was the PURE ENERGY that just gushed from this team, its staff, and its fans.  This team didn't seem to care what Kirbyville was rated (No. 1 AA team in the state).  I don't have the stats, so I'll just say what I feel.  This team seemed fearless and just lines up and plays smash-mouth football; establish the run, and only pass when they need to.  Their opponent could've been the lowest ranked team in Texas or the top ranked team in Texas and nothing would have changed in their approach to a football game.  The Bulldogs are going to line up and play Bulldog football.  In all honesty, I got a rush from the energy that resonates from this team.  The Corrigan/Camden Bulldogs are a reflection of their head coach's personality.  A tough hard-nosed team that plays as a team, a cohesive unit that doesn't give a rip about finesse.  The Bulldogs just wanna line up and smack their opponent in the mouth.  I hate that the Dogs lost to a very beatable Kirbyville team.  If the Dogs eliminated the mistakes that they made, they would've won this game.  I believe The Bulldogs can be a better team than Kirbyville.  When the game was close, I could sense Kirbyville's nervousness because the dogs were going toe to toe with the Wildcats and that's probably something that Kirbyville isn't used to.  The Bulldogs.  What a perfect name for a team that embodies what Texas High School Football is all about.  This team did Corrigan proud and I'm proud that they're from Polk County.  I'm looking forward to covering more Bulldog football games in 2009.
