Child Molester Sentenced to Life in Prison, LIVINGSTON, May 28, 2013 - David Leroy Shannon, 47, of Livingston, was sentenced to life in prison today by 258th District Judge Elizabeth Coker after entering guilty pleas to two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Child Pornography. According to Polk County Criminal District Attorney William Lee Hon, Shannon will have to serve a minimum of 30 years in prison before any consideration for parole. The investigation of Shannon began in October of last year when pornographic images seized by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were linked to a computer in Shannon’s Polk County residence. A search of Shannon’s residence by investigators with the Cyber Crimes Division of the Office of the Texas Attorney General and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department revealed child pornography on Shannon’s home computer. Afterward, the investigation led to the identification of thirteen juvenile subjects who made outcries of improper sexual contact by Shannon. Grand Jury indictments were returned against Shannon for the offenses of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and Possession with Intent to Distribute Child Pornography. According to Hon, after meeting with the families of the victims, the prosecution reached an agreement with Shannon and his attorney for the two life sentences and a sentence of twenty years on the pornography charge. “This was a good outcome that prevented the victims from having to relive their abuse in court and takes a pedophile off the street for a really long time,” Hon stated. “This was a very good multi-agency investigation involving the Attorney General and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department,” Hon added. “In addition, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the contributions of Childrenz Haven, our child advocacy center, which assisted with the forensic interviews of all of the victims and continues to provide counseling services to several of them,” Hon continued. “Everything progressed exactly as it should have and some very good evidence was provided to my office which enabled us to convict a major serial child molester,” Hon concluded.

Shannon is currently charged with sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography. The investigation has revealed that Shannon was involved with local youth sports organizations.
